The oversight body of the International Criminal Court has concluded that prosecutor Karim Khan had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a junior staff member and should be dismissed, Reuters reported Wednesday. The final decision on his fate will be made by a vote at the ICC Assembly of States Parties in New York on July 24.
According to a copy of the decision seen by Reuters, the watchdog said the evidence shows, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Khan had a sexual relationship with the victim. It said the relationship began in March 2023 and worsened over time.
The panel also said the affair took place in a context of power imbalance, adding that a sexual relationship in such a situation is never appropriate. Khan now faces a formal vote on removal by ICC member states.
