Average salaries in Israel's high-tech sector saw a significant drop of 6.2% in July, falling from 36,584 shekels to 34,301 shekels. The annual growth rate of these salaries also slowed considerably; after increases of 13.7% in May and 11.7% in June compared to the previous year, the July figure showed only a 2.3% rise. These figures were released on Monday, October 5, by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

The salary decrease was accompanied by a reduction in job numbers. In July, there were 397,700 salaried positions in high-tech, a 0.2% decrease from June and a 0.3% decrease from July of the previous year. While the month-to-month decline can be seasonal, the year-over-year stagnation suggests a downturn in industry employment. The high-tech sector's share of total salaried jobs fell to 9.3%, down from 9.4% both a month and a year prior.

Despite the recent decline, the average salary in the high-tech industry remains nearly 2.4 times higher than the national average. The highest-paying segment is research and development, where the average salary for its 46,400 employees is 37,578 shekels. In programming and computer consulting, which employs over 218,000 people (55% of all high-tech workers), the average salary reached 36,052 shekels.

Preliminary data for August shows a broader economic trend. The average salary for all Israeli employees decreased by 0.6% from July to August, from 14,534 shekels to 14,448 shekels. This is a less pronounced drop than the 1.4% decrease seen in August of the previous year. On an annual basis, however, the average salary rose by 4.2% compared to August 2025, when it was 13,867 shekels. The total number of salaried jobs for Israelis in August decreased by 2.2% from July, a seasonal trend also observed the previous year.
