After requests from ultra-Orthodox parties, Israel’s Central Election Committee said Tuesday that no enforcement operations related to draft deserters will be carried out on election day for the Knesset.
The decision was jointly approved by Central Election Committee Chairman and Supreme Court Deputy President Noam Sohlberg, Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, and Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Dani Levy.
In announcing the move, the committee said, “Every voter will be able to reach the ballot box without fear.” The statement did not specify any further enforcement steps beyond the election day restriction.
