On Tuesday, the spokesperson for Israel’s Central Elections Committee said committee chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg and acting director general Din Livne had contacted Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and Police Commissioner Dani Levy after receiving requests on the issue.
It was then agreed, with the approval of the election committee chairman, the attorney general and the police commissioner, that no enforcement operations related to draft evaders will be carried out on election day for the Knesset. The decision was taken because of the importance of the right to vote, and so that every voter can reach the polling station without fear.
Levy said police will deploy reinforced forces on election day to ensure the election is conducted properly and to maintain public order. The chairman of the Central Elections Committee welcomed that commitment.
