The Central Elections Committee said Tuesday that no enforcement operations related to draft evaders will take place on the Knesset election day. The decision was reached after Committee Chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg and acting director general Din Livneh contacted Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Danny Levy in response to requests they had received.
According to the committee, the agreement reflects the paramount importance of the right to vote and be elected. The aim is to let every citizen reach the polling station and cast a ballot without fear of encountering enforcement activity.
At the same time, the statement stressed that police will be deployed in reinforced numbers on election day. Their role will be to ensure the orderly conduct of the vote, maintain public order, and secure polling stations across the country.
