Indian Pilot Hailed Hero After Foiling Hijacking Attempt on Flydubai Flight

An Indian pilot, Captain Smit Machchhar, is being lauded as a hero for preventing a potential disaster on a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Machchhar, an Indian national, was reportedly attacked in the cockpit by his co-pilot, an Omani national, in what is believed to have been an attempted hijacking and crash.

According to reports in The Times of India, Machchhar's fierce struggle with the assailant, coupled with the swift intervention of Israeli passengers who entered the cockpit, averted a major catastrophe. The captain sustained injuries during the altercation.

Machchhar, who hails from Mumbai, is receiving widespread recognition in his home country and globally for his bravery and quick thinking. He has undergone surgery and is reported to be in a stable condition. Many have expressed their gratitude and are praying for his swift recovery.

With over 13 years of flight experience on Boeing 737 aircraft, Machchhar has been a captain at Flydubai since June 2022. Prior to that, he spent 11 years with SpiceJet, accumulating over 9,500 flight hours, including more than 6,400 as a captain. His experience includes pilot training, crew resource management, and adherence to flight standards on B737 NG and MAX aircraft. His brother also works as a pilot for Akasa Air.
