Oman Media Downplays Pilot's Role in FlyDubai Attack Attempt

Omani media outlets have largely omitted key details regarding the co-pilot suspected of an attempted attack on a FlyDubai flight from Dubai to Israel. While the incident, which led to an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, received extensive coverage internationally and in other Arab nations, Omani reporting has been notably restrained. According to Israel Hayom, local publications have focused on the basic facts of the event, refraining from specifying the nationalities of those involved. The suspect co-pilot is reportedly an Omani citizen.

One Omani news site reported a conflict in the cockpit between the captain and co-pilot, after which two other pilots took control of the aircraft and landed it safely. Another Omani publication covered the incident on flight FZ1073, en route to Ben Gurion Airport, without detailing the crew's origins. Some major Omani news outlets did not report on the incident at all. Meanwhile, English-language Omani media primarily covered a visit by a high-ranking UAE official to Muscat.

This muted response contrasts sharply with the widespread attention the FlyDubai incident garnered elsewhere. Israel Hayom suggests that Omani media's deliberate omission of the suspect's nationality may be linked to his background, though this remains an assumption by the Israeli newspaper.
