Israeli security agencies and the Airports Authority are investigating how an Omani-origin pilot was granted permission to enter Israel, following a dramatic incident aboard a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The flight, carrying over 150 Israelis, triggered a high alert across the Middle East when a distress code indicating a hijacking was broadcast due to an altercation between two pilots. Israeli Air Force fighter jets were scrambled in response.
The incident prompted an urgent phone consultation between the IDF Chief of Staff, the head of the Shin Bet, and the head of the Mossad to assess the intelligence and operational picture. Following a joint assessment by the Israel Police and the Shin Bet, all passengers and crew were to be immediately interrogated by Shin Bet agents upon landing.
