Oman Media Withholds Pilot's Origin Amid Flydubai Incident Coverage

Omani media outlets are reportedly refraining from publishing details about the nationality of pilots involved in an attempted terror attack on a Flydubai flight, a stark contrast to global and Arab media coverage. This selective reporting is believed to stem from the fact that one of the pilots involved is an Omani citizen.

The incident, which occurred on a flight from the UAE to Israel, has garnered significant international attention. However, Omani news sites have adopted a minimalist approach, focusing only on "dry facts" and omitting personal information about the crew.

One Omani news report stated that two additional pilots took command of the aircraft and landed it safely after a confrontation erupted between the captain and his co-pilot in the cockpit. This account aligns with initial reports from the New York Times, citing a passenger.

Another prominent Omani news source reported that Flydubai confirmed a "confrontation" within the cockpit of flight FZ1073, en route from Dubai to Ben Gurion Airport on September 30, 2026. The airline indicated that this led the crew to divert the flight for a precautionary landing at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia.

Notably, some popular Omani news websites have not reported on the incident at all. English-language local sites, for instance, have instead focused on the visit of a senior UAE official to Muscat, the capital.
