A 67-year-old man was shot dead Tuesday morning on Route 70 near the Kabul junction in the Galilee. Emergency responders reached the scene after a report at 6:28 a.m. to MDA’s 101 hotline in the Asher district about a person injured in a violent incident near Kabul, but they found him unconscious with no signs of life and were forced to pronounce him dead there.
MDA emergency medic Gamal Abu Rumi said, "The injured man was lying unconscious, without a pulse and without breathing, with penetrating wounds to his body. We carried out medical checks, but his injury was critical and we had to declare him dead at the scene."
Israel Police officers were dispatched to the site and opened an investigation into the shooting. Police said their preliminary assessment is that the background to the incident is criminal, while all the circumstances are still being examined.
The killing adds to the ongoing wave of violence in Arab society and brings the number of people murdered in that community since the start of the year to 135.
