Toddler Suffers Severe Finger Injuries in Sukkot Celebration Accident

A two-year-old boy sustained partial amputations of his fingers after inserting them into a fan during a holiday meal in a sukkah in Bnei Brak on Tuesday. Emergency medical teams from United Hatzalah responded rapidly to the scene, providing critical life-saving treatment, including staunching bleeding and applying advanced dressings.

The child was stabilized and subsequently transported by ambulance to Sheba Medical Center at Tel HaShomer. Doctors at the hospital are currently undertaking extensive efforts to reattach the damaged fingers and minimize long-term functional impairment.

Paramedics Chaim Israel Katz and Shmulik Lustig described the incident, stating that the family immediately called for help after the accident occurred during the holiday meal. They administered initial treatment before the transfer to Sheba Medical Center.

This incident is part of a pattern of similar accidents involving children and electrical appliances. United Hatzalah emphasized the critical importance of safety precautions, urging parents to keep young children away from exposed and operating electrical devices, especially in confined spaces like sukkahs during the High Holidays. They recommended measures such as installing protective grilles on fans and placing them out of children's reach to prevent severe injuries.
