Deni Avdija Optimistic About Trail Blazers' Future and Personal Role

Israeli NBA player Deni Avdija expressed optimism about the upcoming season with the Portland Trail Blazers during media day. He stated he is nearly fully recovered from a back injury, feeling "99.9 percent" ready to play and has been working on more efficient movement.

Avdija views the additions of star players like Damian Lillard and the returning Ja Morant positively, believing their presence will benefit his own game. He anticipates having more opportunities to receive the ball on the move, run more fast breaks, and potentially conserve energy by not having to initiate every play. "This will open up the game more, and I think we can help each other. It's an advantage for everyone," he explained.

Reflecting on his past season, Avdija noted that playing point guard provided valuable experience and a better understanding of the position. He also praised new head coach Chauncey Billups, describing him as someone who believes in the team, has a strong basketball IQ, and brings positive energy. Billups reportedly wants Avdija to "continue to be himself" while also playing more off the ball.

Regarding his future with the team, Avdija stated he trusts the process and his representatives when asked about contract extension talks. He is currently focused on the upcoming season and is not dwelling on negotiations. He also expressed his affection for Portland and confidence in owner Jody Allen's decisions concerning the team's arena situation, acknowledging it's beyond his direct involvement but emphasizing the desire for an improved facility for both players and fans.

Avdija defined personal success for the season as continuing to play aggressively and being a good teammate, believing that "the sky's the limit" if he achieves these goals. He also acknowledged Lillard's extensive experience and leadership qualities, anticipating his positive impact on and off the court.
