Senior Doctor Arrested for Drunk Driving in Hospital Parking Lot

A senior doctor, identified as the deputy director of a department at a hospital in Nahariya, was arrested on Sunday after driving under the influence of alcohol and colliding with another vehicle in the hospital's parking lot. The incident occurred as the doctor was attempting to leave the hospital premises. Police officers stationed at the exit stopped him after noticing a strong smell of alcohol emanating from him.

During a breathalyzer test, the device registered a blood alcohol level nearly four times the legal limit, with a reading of 972 micrograms of alcohol. When questioned about driving to work while intoxicated, the doctor reportedly stated, "I knew it was a day without surgeries." The doctor, a Haifa resident in his 50s, had reportedly hit a parked car before being apprehended.

Following the arrest, the doctor's vehicle was impounded, and his driver's license was suspended for 60 days. He has been summoned to appear in court. The Israel Police issued a statement emphasizing their zero-tolerance policy towards drunk driving, highlighting the danger it poses to the public.
