Senior Doctor Arrested for Drunk Driving in Hospital Parking Lot
A senior doctor, identified as the deputy director of a department at a hospital in Nahariya, was arrested on Sunday after driving under the influence of alcohol and colliding with a vehicle in the hospital's parking lot. Police officers on the scene detected a strong smell of alcohol from the doctor, a Haifa resident in his 50s. A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol level nearly four times the legal limit, with a reading of 972 micrograms of alcohol.
When questioned about driving to work while intoxicated, the doctor reportedly stated, "I knew it was a day without surgeries." According to police, after hitting a parked car, the doctor attempted to leave the hospital premises but was stopped by an officer at the exit gate.
The doctor's vehicle was impounded, and his license was suspended for 60 days. He has been summoned to appear in court. The Israel Police issued a statement emphasizing their zero-tolerance policy towards drunk driving, highlighting the danger it poses to drivers and the public.
