Colombian Midfielder Alexis Serna Signs 3-Year Deal With Beitar Jerusalem
Colombian midfielder Alexis Serna, 28, has officially signed a three-year contract with Israeli Premier League club Beitar Jerusalem, joining from Independiente Medellin. Reports from Colombia indicate Serna will earn approximately $15,000 per month in Israel, a significant increase from his previous salary of around $6,000 per month at Medellin. This translates to an annual salary of about $180,000.
Initially, Beitar Jerusalem proposed a loan deal with an option to buy, but Medellin insisted on a permanent transfer. Beitar's first offer of $400,000 for the transfer was rejected, with the final deal reportedly closing at $550,000.
Last season, Serna made 25 appearances, scoring three goals and providing two assists. The 1.70-meter tall midfielder is known for his intensity and ability to join the attack from midfield. This move marks Serna's first experience playing outside of Colombia and his debut in European football.
Serna's transfer is seen as a major financial upgrade for the player, with his salary in Israel more than doubling his previous earnings.
