Colombian Midfielder Alexis Serna Signs 3-Year Deal with Beitar Jerusalem
Colombian midfielder Alexis Serna, 28, has officially signed a three-year contract with Israeli Premier League club Beitar Jerusalem, joining from Independiente Medellín. Reports from Colombia indicate Serna will earn approximately $15,000 per month in Israel, a significant increase from his previous salary of around $6,000 per month at Medellín. This translates to an annual salary of roughly $180,000.
Initially, Beitar Jerusalem proposed a loan deal with an option to buy, but Independiente Medellín insisted on a permanent transfer. Beitar's initial offer of $400,000 for the transfer was rejected, with the final deal reportedly closing at $550,000.
Last season, Serna made 25 appearances, scoring three goals and providing two assists. The 1.70-meter midfielder is known for his intense style, ability to join attacks from midfield, and contributions in the offensive third. This move marks Serna's first experience playing outside of Colombia and his debut in European football.
While the professional challenge is significant, his transfer also represents a substantial financial upgrade, according to his home country's media.
