Beitar Jerusalem Signs Record-Breaking Colombian Midfielder Alexis Serna

Beitar Jerusalem has finalized the acquisition of Colombian midfielder Alexis Serna, marking the most expensive signing during the tenure of club owner Barak Abramov. Serna, 28, is set to undergo medical tests on Monday, after which his two-year contract, with an option for a third, will officially commence. He will earn €270,000 per season, while the club will pay Independiente Medellín approximately €450,000 for the transfer, potentially rising by an additional €120,000 in bonuses over the next two years.

This transfer surpasses the previous record set by the acquisition of Boris Anou, for whom Beitar paid an initial $150,000 to D.C. United, with potential bonuses tied to European qualification or winning titles over three years. Serna, who has not played since June due to injury but has been training fully for the past month, becomes Beitar's eighth foreign player, completing the team's roster of foreign players following the departure of Ailson Tavares, who returned to Portugal.

Beitar Jerusalem hopes Serna will be available for their upcoming match against Hapoel Haifa next Saturday. The club is looking for him to justify the significant investment made in his transfer.
