Baby Chokes on Sukkah Decoration, Saved by Magen David Adom Paramedic

An eight-month-old baby in Netivot nearly choked to death on a piece of Sukkah decoration on Saturday evening. A Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedic arrived at the scene to find the infant's face had turned blue, indicating a severe blockage. The paramedic performed life-saving maneuvers, successfully removing the foreign object from the baby's airway.

The incident was reported to MDA's emergency hotline at 10:36 PM. Responders were dispatched to the home where the baby was located and provided immediate medical attention. It was determined that a fragment from a Sukkah decoration had obstructed the infant's breathing.

Senior paramedic Uriel Cohen described the critical moments, stating, "I arrived quickly at the scene and saw the baby with a blue complexion. I immediately identified it as choking and began performing life-saving actions to remove the foreign object from his throat until a piece of Sukkah decoration came out of his mouth." Within seconds of the object's removal, the baby's normal skin color returned, and his condition stabilized.

Fortunately, the baby did not require hospitalization, and the situation was resolved without further complications. The incident highlights the potential dangers of small objects, even those intended for holiday decoration, posing a risk to infants.
