UEFA Fines and Suspends Ban for Beitar Jerusalem Over Fan Misconduct
Beitar Jerusalem has been handed a significant penalty by UEFA following incidents during their Conference League qualifying match against Austria Vienna. The club was fined 30,000 euros and given a suspended ban on selling tickets to their away fans for one European match. This ban is conditional for two years, meaning fans can still attend away games for now, but any similar offense within that period will trigger the suspension.
The sanctions stem from two charges: racist and/or discriminatory behavior by supporters, and the lighting of pyrotechnics. The larger portion of the fine and the suspended ban are related to the discriminatory conduct. An additional fine of 2,750 euros was imposed for the use of flares and other pyrotechnic devices by fans.
Although Beitar Jerusalem's European season has concluded, these penalties will apply to future UEFA competitions should the club qualify again. The club must now ensure strict adherence to UEFA regulations to avoid the suspended ban being enacted.
