Beitar Jerusalem Fined Heavily After Fan Invasion
Beitar Jerusalem has been fined NIS 50,000 (approximately $13,500 USD) by the Football Association's disciplinary court following a fan invasion during their opening match of the season against Maccabi Netanya. The incident occurred after Beitar conceded a goal, prompting a group of fans to rush onto the field in protest. Beitar players quickly intervened, urging the fans to return to the stands to de-escalate the situation.
The fine was broken down into several components: NIS 33,000 for the pitch invasion by 11 fans which halted the game, NIS 12,000 for throwing 12 objects, and NIS 5,000 for an incident involving the assistant referee that also caused a game stoppage.
Despite the severity of the offenses, the disciplinary judge, Adv. Nir Smogor, decided against imposing a one-game ban on selling away tickets, a penalty initially sought by the prosecutor. This decision was made because Beitar Jerusalem accepted full responsibility for the actions and admitted guilt. Smogor cited the early stage of the season and the club's acceptance of responsibility and fines as reasons for leniency.
