Israeli Teen Killed in Russian Drone Strike on Kyiv Apartment Building

A 14-year-old Israeli citizen was killed Friday morning when a Russian drone struck an apartment building in Kyiv, Ukraine, as part of a broader Russian assault on the capital. Israel's Foreign Ministry confirmed the death, stating that the Israeli consul in Kyiv and the department for Israelis in distress abroad are handling the case and are in close contact with the victim's family, providing necessary assistance. The boy's mother was also injured in the attack and hospitalized. The drone hit a 16-story residential building in central Kyiv around 8:00 AM. Russian-language Israeli media reported that the teenager lived with his family in the building, which is located near the Israeli embassy.

Separately, on Sunday, a drone attacked a facility near the Kapotnya oil refinery in Moscow, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. Reports indicate two people died in that strike, and the extent of the damage is still being assessed. Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for the Moscow attack. The Kapotnya refinery, Moscow's largest, supplies 35-40% of the capital's fuel needs and has faced repeated attacks since June. Repair costs are estimated at $1 billion, with full renovation not expected until 2027.

Earlier this week, Sobyanin reported a massive aerial presence over Moscow, claiming over 350 drones were spotted, with Russian air defenses neutralizing 64 and others intercepted remotely. This led to the temporary shutdown of two international airports, Vnukovo and Domodedovo.

Amid the escalating war between Russia and Ukraine, Western military forces are observing a deliberate escalation and intensification of "hybrid threats" from Moscow, prompting heightened alert among NATO countries due to concerns of attacks expanding beyond Ukraine.
