Woman Murdered in Haifa; Partner Arrested

A woman in her 30s was murdered in Haifa overnight between Thursday and Friday. Police arrested her 28-year-old partner on Friday morning for questioning regarding his involvement in the incident. Emergency services received a call about the woman, found with a neck injury in her home on Ha'atzmaut Street, in critical condition. She was evacuated to Rambam Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police stated that all investigative avenues are being explored and that they will seek to extend the partner's detention when he appears in court.

The Michal Sela Forum, an organization combating domestic violence, reported that 20 people have been murdered within families in Israel this year: 13 women, four men, a 6-year-old boy, a 3-year-old toddler, and an infant. Additionally, a 9-year-old girl was accidentally shot and killed by her father, and a 9-year-old boy survived an attempted murder by his father. Eight of the 20 domestic murder victims were killed by firearms, with at least one weapon legally registered.

The Women's Lobby stated, "We mourn her shocking loss and our hearts are with the family." They added, "This is a young woman found lifeless with signs of violence on her body. At this stage, the circumstances are still being investigated, and we will continue to follow the investigation's developments. However, such a case cannot be viewed in isolation from the broader picture of violence against women in Israel." A survey by the Women's Lobby found that over a quarter of Israeli women (27%) have experienced violence from a partner or relative.

According to the Michal Sela Forum, since October 7, 2023, there has been an unprecedented 36% surge in domestic murders, with 79 victims, including 68 women and 7 children, predominantly from the Jewish community. The forum, in conjunction with the Ministry of Welfare, has provided protection to 1,069 threatened women and an additional 4,061 at-risk children.
