Jerusalem Toddler Hospitalized After Ingesting Toxic Substance

A two-year-old toddler in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Mea Shearim was hospitalized in moderate condition on Friday after accidentally drinking turpentine from a bottle in his home. Emergency medical teams from United Hatzalah provided initial treatment at the scene before transporting the child to the hospital.

According to United Hatzalah, the family noticed the child's distress and immediately called for emergency services. Responders, including paramedics Avrimi and Tzvi Rozovsky and Meir Zander, arrived quickly and were informed by the family that the toddler had ingested turpentine. They administered first aid before the child was evacuated to the hospital.

This incident highlights a recurring problem of young children accidentally being exposed to hazardous household materials. Turpentine, a chemical solvent used for cleaning and painting, can cause significant damage to the digestive and respiratory systems if ingested.

Medical professionals advise parents to store cleaning supplies and chemical solvents in locked, elevated locations out of children's reach, ensuring all bottles are clearly labeled and kept in their original packaging.
