Philanthropist Distributes $330 to Thousands of Married Scholars in Jerusalem

Thousands of people flocked to the Orayta Yeshiva building in Jerusalem on Friday for a special charity distribution by philanthropist Yoely Landau. Landau, an American billionaire known for his charitable activities, is giving 1,200 Israeli shekels (approximately $330) to each married scholar in need.

The massive turnout exceeded expectations, causing severe traffic congestion on Strauss Street, a main thoroughfare in the religious neighborhood. Several bus lines, including the number 1 route from the Western Wall, were rerouted and unable to enter the street.

Landau continues a deep family tradition of charity. His grandfather, Rabbi Mordechai Leib Deutsch, served as a close aide to Rabbi Yeshayah of Kerestir. Landau himself recently visited Kerestir, Hungary, for the 101st anniversary of Rabbi Yeshayah's passing, arriving by private helicopter. During that visit, he announced a significant donation to fund renovations at the local synagogue in his grandfather's memory.

Landau is recognized for his generous contributions to Torah institutions. The large crowd at the Jerusalem distribution highlights the significant need among married scholars and the trust the Haredi public places in his philanthropic endeavors.
