Qatar Responds to Netanyahu, Cites Mediation Role for Hamas Presence
Qatar's Deputy UN Ambassador, Hamad Al-Muftah, responded to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remarks, stating that senior Hamas officials were hosted in Doha due to Qatar's role as a mediator between Hamas and Israel. Al-Muftah asserted that American officials have repeatedly described Qatar's mediation role as critical or necessary.
Al-Muftah also commented on Netanyahu's address at the UN, suggesting that speaking to a "half-empty room" indicated a lack of support for his message. He further stated that blaming Qatar for political failures does not alter facts and addressed Qatar's reported funding of American universities, claiming it overwhelmingly supported the operation of U.S. university campuses in Education City and brought American higher education to the Middle East.
