Colombian right-wing candidate says Trump congratulated him on election lead
Colombian conservative Abelardo de la Espriella, who appears to be the winner of the presidential election, said that U.S. President Donald Trump congratulated him on his victory. Trump has not issued any official statement and has not posted about it on his Truth Social account.
De la Espriella has not yet been formally declared the winner. With more than 99% of the vote counted, he is leading his left-wing rival, Ivan Cepeda, by less than 1%, a margin of about 245,000 votes.
Despite the near-complete count, Cepeda said the results are not final and said he plans to challenge the outcome in 33 polling stations before recognizing it.
