Ivan Spada, the left-wing candidate in Colombia’s presidential election, said the results released after most of the votes were counted are not final. He is expected to lose to right-wing candidate Abelardo de la Asperya, but said he will wait for the full count before recognizing any official outcome.
Spada said he intends to challenge the results in 33,000 polling stations. He argued that the published figures should not yet be treated as conclusive.
According to the latest data released so far, de la Asperya won the most votes, with turnout at 49.65%. Spada trailed by about 250,000 votes, with turnout reported at 48.7%.
