Colombian right-wing politician Abelardo de la Espriella, who appears to have won the presidential election, said he intends to “govern for all Colombians.” He has not yet been formally declared the winner.
With more than 99% of the votes counted, de la Espriella is ahead of Spada by less than 1%, a margin of about 245,000 votes. The race remains close enough that the final result is still not official.
Spada said the results are “not final” and announced plans to challenge them in 33,000 polling stations. The dispute leaves the election outcome dependent on the remaining process and any review of the contested stations.
