Former Teacher Sentenced to 32 Months for Sex Crimes Against Student
A Jerusalem Magistrate's Court has sentenced a former teacher and educator to 32 months in prison for sexual offenses against a 15-year-old student. The court also convicted him of obstructing justice and ordered him to pay the victim 24,000 shekels in compensation.
The indictment detailed how the teacher exploited his position of authority and the trust placed in him by the student to commit indecent acts and unlawful sexual intercourse. The two also exchanged sexually explicit messages. Subsequently, the teacher instructed the student to delete these messages and pleaded with her not to report him, citing his children as a reason for leniency.
The prosecution had sought a 40-month sentence, but the court imposed 32 months, noting the defendant's lack of genuine remorse or empathy towards the complainant. His name was cleared for publication, but the execution of this decision has been stayed, meaning he is currently still barred from being identified.
