Former Educator Sentenced to 32 Months for Sex Crimes Against Student

A Jerusalem Magistrate's Court has sentenced a former teacher and educator to 32 months in prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old student. The educator was convicted of charges including unlawful intercourse by consent, indecent acts, sexual harassment, and obstruction of justice. The court also imposed a suspended sentence and ordered him to pay 24,000 shekels in compensation to the victim.

The court sharply criticized the defendant's conduct, noting that despite admitting to some charges during the proceedings, he "did not express genuine remorse or empathy towards the complainant." The judges highlighted the victim's difficult experience undergoing a long, intrusive, and humiliating cross-examination.

According to the ruling, the educator systematically exploited his position of authority and the student's dependency to foster a close relationship. He engaged in indecent acts, had consensual intercourse with her, and exchanged sexually explicit messages and images. He also attempted to obstruct the investigation by instructing her to delete messages, urging her to remain silent due to his own legal troubles, and pleading with her not to report him to protect his children and avoid prison.

The Jerusalem District Prosecutor's Office had sought a 40-month sentence, arguing the crimes were severe, prolonged, and involved exploiting his role as an educator. Prosecutors emphasized his calculated approach in building trust to exploit the student, causing significant harm while avoiding full accountability.

In addition to the prison term and compensation, the defendant received a 12-month suspended sentence and a 20,000 shekel financial commitment to refrain from sex offenses. The court permitted the publication of his name, though this was temporarily stayed.
