Former Teacher Sentenced to 32 Months for Sex Crimes Against Student

A Jerusalem Magistrate's Court has sentenced a former teacher and homeroom advisor to 32 months in prison for a series of sexual offenses against a student who was approximately 15 years old at the time, as well as for obstruction of justice. He also received a 12-month suspended sentence and was ordered to pay NIS 24,000 in compensation to the victim.

The court found that the man, who was the victim's homeroom teacher, exploited his position of authority and the student's dependency to gradually engage in inappropriate conduct and illegal sexual relations with her. His offenses included lewd acts, sexual conversations and correspondence, and sending an intimate photograph.

During the proceedings, the convicted teacher urged the student to delete their communications and, upon learning of a separate legal case, implored her not to reveal what had happened. He later asked her not to report him to the police, pleading that she "pity his children" so he would not go to jail, which formed the basis for the obstruction of justice charges.

The court granted permission to publish the former teacher's name, but this decision has been postponed, making his name currently subject to a publication ban.
