Israeli Teacher Faces Extended Restrictions Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

A 72-year-old teacher in central Israel is under investigation for alleged sexual harassment and indecent acts involving a student at his school. The police requested on Wednesday that the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court extend restrictions barring him from working with minors for 90 days. The teacher denies all allegations, but Judge Shaul Avinor found "reasonable suspicion" and extended the restrictions for 45 days starting September 8.

The case began about a week ago when a complaint was filed accusing the teacher of indecent acts against a student, leading to his arrest and subsequent release under conditions. Police stated the teacher’s role involves contact with minors, and further investigation is needed, including witness testimonies and phone data. The defense attorney, Tzachi Lasri, emphasized the teacher’s cooperation and urged the police to complete the investigation promptly, noting some alleged incidents occurred in the presence of others.

Judge Avinor acknowledged the teacher’s clean record aside from a prior unreported incident but stressed the seriousness of the current allegations. The court prohibited the teacher from contacting involved parties and from working with minors during the extension period. The police’s full 90-day request was partially denied, with a 45-day extension granted to allow continued investigation.
