72-Year-Old Math Teacher in Central Israel Suspended Amid Sexual Misconduct Investigation

A 72-year-old math teacher in central Israel is under investigation for alleged indecent acts and sexual harassment of a 12th-grade student at his school. The Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court extended restrictions on the teacher this Wednesday, preventing him from working with minors for 45 days, starting September 8. The police had requested a 90-day ban, but Judge Shaul Avinor found sufficient grounds for a "reasonable suspicion" based on the evidence presented but limited the duration.

The investigation began following a complaint filed on August 18, leading to the teacher's arrest and subsequent house arrest until August 30. The teacher denies all allegations, calling them a "false accusation." His lawyer, Tzachi Lasri, emphasized the teacher's cooperation and requested the police complete remaining investigative steps, including witness testimonies and phone data analysis. Lasri also highlighted that some alleged incidents occurred in the presence of others who could be summoned.

Judge Avinor noted the teacher has no prior criminal record but mentioned a previous unrelated incident that did not result in police involvement. The court ordered the teacher to avoid contact with those involved and stay away from the school during the restriction period. Lasri expressed confidence that the police will uncover the truth as the investigation continues.
