Israeli Physics Teacher Fired for Inappropriate Sexual Comments to Students
A middle school physics teacher in central Israel was dismissed immediately and banned from public service and the Ministry of Education for five years following a disciplinary hearing in Jerusalem. The teacher, employed since 2017, admitted to misconduct involving inappropriate sexual and gender-related remarks during classes, violating state service discipline and professional conduct standards. The disciplinary court accepted a plea agreement including a severe reprimand, immediate dismissal with severance pay, and a 5,000 shekel compensation to each of two complainants.
The indictment detailed multiple incidents where the teacher made explicit comments about sexuality, gender roles, and relationships to ninth-grade students. Examples include presenting a chart on sexual activity among homosexuals and lesbians, advising students that "good sex" is a key to successful relationships, and making suggestive remarks to a student about babysitting. He also shared graphic stories about sexual survival in a labor camp and commented on his son's pornography consumption.
During a school trip bus ride, the teacher discussed with female students the idea that men are naturally unable to control sexual attraction and justified street harassment as a form of male desire. The most serious incident occurred on May 27, 2024, when he made numerous explicit statements about sexual attraction, platonic love denial, and gender dynamics, including telling a student that revealing clothing "activates" him and that women dress provocatively for male attention. He also claimed that under "natural laws," women have no rights and that men are supposed to abduct and rape women, remarks he made in response to a student's question about street harassment.
The court emphasized that while discussions on gender and sexuality can be educational if age-appropriate and pedagogically managed, this teacher's approach was excessively intimate, creating an uncomfortable and harmful classroom environment. The court ruled that teachers must maintain clear boundaries and serve as role models, not blur authority lines with students.
Despite the severity, the court considered the teacher's prior positive evaluations and his expressed remorse, noting he did not engage in private contact or physical misconduct. The plea deal avoided the need for minor victims to testify, with parents reluctantly agreeing to the settlement to spare their daughters further trauma.
