Netanyahu's UN Visit Cut Short by Flight Delay, Security Concerns

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu departed Israel early Thursday for New York to address the UN General Assembly. A delay in his flight significantly shortened his visit, with Netanyahu now scheduled to arrive only hours before his address. The condensed schedule has already led to the cancellation of planned meetings, including one with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who had to return to Washington for talks with President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Upon arrival, Netanyahu is expected to meet with the new Prime Minister of Slovenia, Janez Janša, whose election has been marked by a positive shift in Slovenia's relations with Israel. Netanyahu's UN address, scheduled for 2 PM New York time (9 PM Israel time), will reportedly focus on the war against Iran and its implications, as well as the rise of antisemitism and calls for Hamas's disarmament. He is also expected to address New York City Mayor Eric Adams in connection with antisemitism.

Following his speech, Netanyahu is slated to meet with the presidents of Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Panama, and Ethiopia, and the vice president of Colombia. He will also meet with the prime ministers of Greece, Slovenia, and Papua New Guinea. According to the Prime Minister's Office, numerous world leaders requested meetings, but Netanyahu could only accommodate some due to his tight schedule and the need to return before the Sukkot holiday.

Netanyahu's return to Israel was expedited following a security briefing that presented intelligence warnings related to his trip, recommending he shorten his stay. His landing in Israel is planned for Friday afternoon, ahead of the holiday.
