Netanyahu is expected to depart for New York on Thursday morning and leave the U.S. that same evening. The visit's primary purpose was his speech at the United Nations General Assembly. Originally, Netanyahu was scheduled to stay in the U.S. until Friday, but the itinerary has been condensed to the point where no overnight stay in New York is planned.

The visit is also occurring against the backdrop of planned protests against Netanyahu in the city and a public confrontation between him and New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Adams recently reiterated his stance that Netanyahu should face trial at The Hague, while Netanyahu attacked him, announcing that in his UN speech, he would present Israel's position and defend the IDF's actions.
