Netanyahu Cuts New York Visit Short Amid Security Concerns

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is shortening his trip to New York following security warnings from senior Israeli security officials. The officials met with Netanyahu and advised him to reduce his stay in the United States due to security assessments presented to him regarding the trip. Discussions about the visit, some attended by Netanyahu, took place over the past two days, involving intelligence assessments and specific warnings that led to the recommendation against extending his time in New York.

Netanyahu's visit comes amidst a public exchange with New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Adams had previously described Netanyahu as a "war criminal and architect of horrific genocide against the Palestinian people" in a CNN interview, referencing a potential international arrest warrant. Adams also stated he was "looking into" the matter and having "active deliberations" with the city's legal department regarding his authority to enforce such a warrant, though he acknowledged the city lacks the power to execute warrants from the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

In response, Netanyahu addressed Adams' remarks, stating, "You should be ashamed of your support for the Hamas monsters who slaughtered our people, and you should be ashamed of inciting riots against the Jews of New York." He added, "I am coming to the United Nations, and I will tell the truth about our heroic soldiers, and I will tell the truth about you."
