Balad Party Leader Slams Election Committee, Judge After Disqualification

Sami Abu Shehadeh, chairman of the Balad party, has criticized the Israeli Election Committee's decision to disqualify his party from participating in the upcoming elections, calling the committee "political" and "unprofessional." In an interview with an Egyptian channel, Abu Shehadeh also attacked Supreme Court Justice Isaac Solberg, whom he labeled a "settler judge" who has consistently supported disqualifications.

Balad, an Arab nationalist party, was disqualified by the Election Committee on grounds of supporting terrorism and denying the existence of Israel as a Jewish state. The decision is subject to appeal at the Supreme Court.

Abu Shehadeh asserted that the committee's decision was politically motivated, aimed at weakening Arab representation in the Knesset. He argued that the disqualification process is being used to silence dissenting voices and prevent the Arab public from having a political platform.

The party chairman's remarks highlight the ongoing tensions surrounding Arab political participation in Israel and the legal challenges faced by parties deemed to be in opposition to the state's foundational principles. The Supreme Court is expected to review the appeal in the coming days.
