Israel Warns Hamas May Attempt Kidnapping Amid Gaza Pressure

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant approved the dissemination of intelligence on Tuesday morning indicating Hamas's intention to carry out a kidnapping operation. Military analyst Yossi Yehoshua revealed new details regarding this warning originating from the Gaza Strip. A senior security source told i24NEWS that Hamas is currently under significant pressure due to escalating Israeli targeted killings in Gaza, prompting the group to consider a kidnapping attempt as a means to halt the assassinations. The source cautioned that if Hamas proceeds with this threat, Israel could face another round of confrontation during the peak election period. In response to the threat, the Israeli military has instructed forces along the Gaza border to maintain a heightened state of alert. Over the past 24 hours, Israeli forces have observed Hamas sending children towards them, with requests to open fire to deter them being denied in some instances. Defense Minister Gallant had previously stated at a memorial ceremony that if an Israeli soldier or civilian is kidnapped, the entire city of Gaza, including its buildings and "terrorist towers," would be evacuated southward with its population of one million. He likened the potential response to operations in Rafah, Beit Hanoun, and 70% of Gaza's territory, vowing to continue until the captive is returned.
