Israel Warns Hamas: One Hostage Will Lead to Gaza City Evacuation

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant issued a stark warning to Hamas on Tuesday, stating that any new abduction of an Israeli soldier or civilian would trigger a massive escalation of military operations in the Gaza Strip. Gallant cited intelligence indicating Hamas's intentions to carry out such acts.

Gallant also asserted that Israel had conducted "two powerful preemptive strikes against Iran" during the ongoing conflict, which he claimed neutralized Iran's "nuclear threat of annihilation," led to the death of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, and destroyed strategic Iranian capabilities. He vowed further action if necessary, stating, "The mission is not yet over, and if we are forced, we will strike for a third time, until the terrorist regime is brought down and removed."

Regarding other fronts, Gallant explained that the Israeli military is currently deployed in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, establishing security zones within territories beyond the borders. He described these measures as lessons learned from the October 7th attacks, aimed at preventing "jihadist elements" from operating near Israeli borders. These security zones, he noted, are devoid of civilian populations, with the IDF constructing military outposts and destroying above- and below-ground "armed infrastructure," including homes used as military sites.

Gallant emphasized that Israel will not withdraw from its current positions in Gaza until Hamas is dismantled, the territory is demilitarized, and its tunnel network is destroyed. "We will not allow a threat to our communities," he declared.

In a significant threat, Gallant directly addressed Hamas and its supporters, including Iran and Turkey, warning that "if one Israeli soldier or citizen is abducted, the entire city of Gaza, with its homes and terrorist towers, will be evacuated, and its million residents will be moved south." He stated that Gaza City would be treated similarly to Rafah, Beit Hanoun, and other parts of Gaza until the abducted individual is returned. Gallant characterized this approach as "the language that jihadist terrorist organizations in Gaza and Lebanon understand," outlining an Israeli policy of "evacuating populations, destroying infrastructure, and controlling territory."

Following Gallant's remarks, Ofer Winter, head of the "Israel Our Home" party, criticized the Defense Minister for highlighting intelligence warnings about potential abductions. Winter questioned why such warnings were being raised years after the war, reminding Gallant that 251 soldiers and civilians were already abducted on October 7th. Winter also criticized what he termed a reliance on threats rather than practical action, suggesting Gaza should have been evacuated and its population moved south on the second day of the war. He called for a fundamental shift in Israeli security doctrine, advocating for a proactive and decisive policy over one of containment and reaction.
