Israel Warns Hamas: Hostage Attempt Will Lead to Gaza Evacuation

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a stark warning to Hamas and its supporters, including Iran and Turkey, stating that any attempt to abduct an Israeli soldier or settler would result in the evacuation of the entire Gaza City, home to one million residents, southward.

Katz revealed that intelligence indicated Hamas's intention to carry out abduction operations. He emphasized that such an act would trigger a significant Israeli response within the Gaza Strip, specifically targeting Hamas. He explicitly mentioned Iran and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as supporters of Hamas who are included in this warning.

The defense minister's statement came amid recent unusual incidents near Gaza border posts. These include a documented instance of a suspect approaching an IDF post and another where an assailant crossed the border fence, reaching within approximately 100 meters of a military position.

Katz reiterated that Israel would respond forcefully to any abduction attempt, drawing a parallel to past actions where populations were relocated. He stressed that the entire city of Gaza, with its million inhabitants, would be evacuated southward in such a scenario.
