14 Israelis Detained After Crossing Into Syria, IDF Responds
Fourteen Israeli civilians crossed the border into Syrian territory near Aloni HaBashan earlier today in an unusual incident. An Israel Defense Forces (IDF) unit was dispatched to the area, located the civilians, and returned them to Israeli soil. The group was detained for questioning and will be transferred to the Israel Police for further processing.
The IDF strongly condemned the breach, stating it constitutes a severe disruption to operational activities and endangers the forces working in the area. "The IDF strongly condemns the incident, which constitutes another case of severe interference with operational activity and a danger to the security of IDF forces operating in the area," an IDF spokesperson said.
The military also called for law enforcement to take action against those involved, urging them to "exhaust the legal process with those involved, in order to prevent these civilians from repeating this phenomenon time after time, which constitutes a criminal offense."
