Beitar Jerusalem has already brought one Israeli abroad back home, signing Tomer Yosefi to a three-year deal, and Shon Weissman may be next. The Jerusalem club, now led by Almog Cohen, is looking for a striker, while G'Johnbosco Kalu is expected to stay another season, Yarden Shua can also play up front, and Hassan Gonzalez will not continue, opening a foreign spot that could also go to an Israeli player.
Weissman, who has spent most of his professional career overseas, has drawn interest from Beitar. The 30-year-old has not played in Israel since 2019, six years ago, and the club is expected to begin talks on a two-year contract if he tells them he is willing to return.
Last summer, Weissman was close to joining Fortuna Dusseldorf, but the move was canceled after remarks he made were seen as extreme, a development that may still affect him. Even so, the first club linked with him early in the current transfer window was Wolfsberger, his former team.
Reports in Austria said Wolfsberger was planning a major attacking move and that a return for Weissman was very plausible. The club also wants Slovenian striker Nick Prskalo, who previously played for coach Thomas Silberberger, and local outlet Abseits said the two could compete for a place in the starting lineup.
