Beitar Jerusalem, which has already brought one overseas-based Israeli player back home in Tomer Yosefi, may now turn to Shon Weissman. The striker, who has spent most of his professional career abroad, has drawn interest from the club run by Almog Cohen as Beitar looks for a forward.
At present, Jonathan Kalu is expected to stay for another season, while Yarden Shua can also play as a striker. Hassona Gonzalez is not expected to continue, which opens up a foreign-player slot, though the club is also considering an Israeli option.
Weissman’s situation is shaped by last summer, when he was close to joining Fortuna Dusseldorf but the transfer was canceled after remarks he made were viewed as extreme. Even so, early in the current transfer window, one of the main clubs linked with him was Wolfsberger, his former team. Austrian reports said Wolfsberger was planning an ambitious attacking rebuild and that a return for Weissman was quite plausible, alongside interest in Slovenian forward Nick Prsk.
According to the local site Abseits, Weissman and Prsk could even compete for a place in the starting lineup. Beitar is now believed ready to open talks on a two-year contract if the 30-year-old signals that he is willing to return to Israel. Weissman has not played in Israel since 2019, six years ago.
