Syria Investigates Possible Israeli Role in Mysterious Arms Depot Explosions

Syrian authorities in Damascus are investigating the possibility of Israeli involvement in a series of recent mysterious explosions at arms depots across Syria, according to a report by Kan News. This comes in the wake of massive explosions that rocked a Syrian army weapons depot near Aleppo in northern Syria overnight.

The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced Monday that it is investigating the circumstances of the explosions and will soon release its findings. A Syrian source close to the government told Kan News that Damascus is also examining the possibility of Israeli involvement in these mysterious incidents, although no public accusation has been made at this time.

The massive explosion at the Syrian army's weapons depot, south of Aleppo, is the third such incident in less than two weeks across Syria. The blast caused secondary explosions and missiles stored at the facility to fly into the air, visible from a great distance.

In recent days, more than ten Syrian soldiers were killed in an explosion at a military site in the Deir ez-Zor region in eastern Syria. Less than two weeks ago, a weapons depot near Idlib in the northwest exploded, also resulting in casualties. The incident near Aleppo reportedly caused only a few injuries.

About a month ago, Israel attacked the Al-Dohur air base in northwestern Syria to thwart Turkish attempts to establish a presence there, and Damascus officially accused Israel at the time. In the current case, while the authorities are not rushing to publicly blame Israel, they consider it a potential suspect.
