Syria Investigates Israeli Role in String of Mysterious Weapons Depot Explosions

Syrian authorities are investigating the possibility of Israeli involvement in a series of recent mysterious explosions at Syrian army weapons depots. The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that it has opened an investigation into the circumstances of these incidents and will soon release its findings. A Syrian source close to the government told Kan News that while no public accusation has been made yet, authorities are examining Israel's potential role.

A massive explosion occurred overnight Tuesday at a weapons depot south of Aleppo in northern Syria. The blast caused secondary explosions, sent missiles into the air, and resulted in several injuries. This marks the third such incident across Syria in less than two weeks.

In recent days, more than ten soldiers were killed in an explosion at a military site in the Deir ez-Zor region in the east of the country. Prior to that, a weapons depot near Idlib exploded, also resulting in fatalities and injuries.

The suspicion directed at Israel comes in the wake of an attack on the Al-Dohur air base in northwestern Syria just over a month ago, which was intended to thwart Turkish military entrenchment. While Damascus officially accused Jerusalem of that attack, in the current cases, Syrian authorities are refraining from direct accusations but are identifying Israel as a potential suspect.
