Veteran Kol Israel Correspondent Gideon Kouts Dies at 78
Gideon Kouts, the longtime Paris correspondent for the Israeli broadcaster Kol Israel, has died in the French capital at the age of 78. Kouts served as a foreign correspondent for approximately 40 years, covering major international events throughout his career.
His reporting spanned significant historical moments, including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the wars in Yugoslavia and Chechnya, the Middle East peace process, and the Arab Spring uprisings. He also covered terrorist attacks in Europe and the crisis in Ukraine.
Beyond his journalistic duties, Kouts was involved in research and the study of Hebrew and Jewish press history in Europe. He led the Foreign Press Association in France for five years and later became its honorary president. Kouts was a well-known figure in international journalistic circles during his decades in Paris.
He is survived by his wife, Yaffa Iron-Kouts, a journalist and photographer, and their two children.
