Gideon Kutz, Veteran European Correspondent for Kol Yisrael, Dies at 78
Gideon Kutz, a veteran journalist, historian, and former Paris correspondent for Kol Yisrael (the former Israel Broadcasting Authority), passed away on Sunday at the age of 78. Kutz served for four decades as a correspondent in Europe, covering major historical events that shaped the continent and the world.
Throughout his extensive career, Kutz reported from the field on pivotal moments including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the wars in Yugoslavia and Chechnya, developments in the Middle East peace process, the Arab Spring events, a wave of terror attacks in Europe, and the crisis in Ukraine. He was recognized as a prominent voice for foreign affairs coverage for Israeli listeners.
In addition to his journalistic work, Kutz was a researcher and historian specializing in the history of Hebrew and Jewish journalism in Europe. He also pursued an academic career, researching media and culture. For five years, he served as president of the Association of Foreign Press Correspondents in France, later becoming its honorary president.
Gideon Kutz is survived by his wife, journalist and photographer Yaffa Eiron-Kutz, a son, and a daughter.
