Esteemed Rabbi's Widow, Chaya Tzipora Frand, Dies at 86

By משה ויסברג
Translated & summarized from Behadrei Haredim by baba
The story · English

Chaya Tzipora Frand, the widow of Rabbi Nach Frand, a revered figure in the Bais Yaakov community and longtime supervisor of the Tiferet Yisrael Yeshiva in Jerusalem, passed away on Sunday evening at the age of 86. Her passing occurred just before the eve of Yom Kippur.

Born in 1940 to Rabbi Amram Blau, a prominent leader of Agudat Yisrael, and the grandson of Rabbi Moshe Blau, she married Rabbi Nach Frand, who served as the spiritual supervisor for the Bais Yaakov educational institution for over fifty years until his death in January 2022. Mrs. Frand was known for her piety, modesty, and deep respect for Torah scholars. Her home in Jerusalem's Beit Yisrael neighborhood was a center for acts of kindness and hospitality.

She is survived by her children, who are prominent Torah scholars and educators, including Rabbi Asher Frand, head of the Noam HaTalmud Yeshiva; Rabbi Naftali Frand, head of the Iyun HaTorah Yeshiva; Rabbi Yisrael Frand, head of a kollel in Jerusalem; and Rabbi Yeshayahu Mordechai Frand.

The funeral procession departed from Shagar Funeral Home in Jerusalem on Sunday morning, proceeding to Har HaMenuchot cemetery for burial. The family observed a brief shiva, the traditional seven-day mourning period, at their home before the onset of Yom Kippur.
