Maccabi Tel Aviv secured a 2-1 victory over Netanya on Saturday, with James Tavernier playing a pivotal role despite an unconventional approach to penalties. Tavernier initially missed a penalty kick but managed to score from the rebound, ultimately giving his team the lead.

Dor Peretz, who had scored the first penalty of the match, allowed Tavernier to take the second attempt after his initial miss. Tavernier explained his unique penalty-taking style, noting that he developed it through extensive practice. "I created a unique style for myself, it's hard for goalkeepers to read me," he stated, emphasizing his consistent run-up regardless of how he strikes the ball.

He added that while pressure can be a factor, technique is paramount, and he focuses on striking the ball with maximum power. Tavernier has a career penalty conversion rate of 79%, having scored 77 out of 97 attempts prior to this match, slightly above the average of 76%. This was the 21st penalty he has missed in his career, but for the first time, he was able to capitalize on the rebound and score.
